Finding Profitable Keywords for Google Ads Using Google Keywords Planner

by | May 7, 2023

Many digital marketers find it difficult when it comes to find Profitable keywords that are going to work for their Google ads campaign or for their SEO project and that’s not because they don’t know about the different keyword research tools, it is because they don’t know how to find the excellent keywords out from the good keywords that these keyword research tools give.

Here we are going to use the most reliable tool in the industry for keyword research called keyword planner from Google itself.

We will discuss in detail how you can find and then filter out the super keywords that match your Google ads campaign or SEO goal.

Step 1: Finding Keywords

Method 1: Using related keywords (seed keywords)

Try finding and noting down the keywords that are closely related to your business product or service (seed keywords)

For example: If you’re running a pastry/bakery business, some of the seed keywords that are related to your industry are:

  • cakes
  • pudding
  • cookies
  • doughnuts
  • croissants
  • biscuits

You now know what I meant by seed keywords right?

Likewise, You need to make a list of at least 15-20 of your seed keywords

and enter all these keywords into the google keywords planner

Then set your location (your target market location) I will set it as the United Arab Emirates or Dubai, the time period ( I prefer to keep it as the last 12 months, sneak around it as you like), and language (your target audience language) and placement as just Google.

Hit “search”

in seconds you will get hundreds of keyword ideas along with their data like Avg monthly searches, search competition, avg CPC, and a lot more.

Method 2: Using Your own or competitor’s website

You can use one more option to find keyword ideas, which is to use your website

But if your website doesn’t have enough data you can use your top competitor’s website (so that you don’t miss out on their top keywords 😉

Enter in the website > Select “Use the entire site”

Tip: We generally prefer using the first method that is by using seed keywords instead of website search, since it is more reliable.

Step 2: Refining the Keywords

There’s a life-saving option called “refine keywords” right to the keywords list

(image)

which you can use to refine different kinds of keyword categories related to the keywords you have entered such as different brands, different colors, and a bunch lot of other options for refining.

These options for refining might be different for you, it depends on the category of keywords you have entered.

For our previous example of “bakery”, this is how it shows:

Step 3: Filtering the Keywords

Click on the add filter option right above the keywords list.

here you can filter out the keywords in a lot of varieties of option

Some of the useful filters that are commonly used are:

Keywords “contain” and do “not contain” filter

Using this filter you can filter out keywords with specific text in them, for example, here I can filter keywords that contain only cakes (then only the keywords with cakes will show

or I can filter out and remove the keywords that contain “cheese” in them

I would try different filters like monthly average searches, competition, etc. Just play around with each of these options and you will get a clear idea about what each of these filters can do.
